Mahua is a farming village in Assam, which is badly affected by drought, leading the farmers depending on it to inevitable suicide owing to crushing loans and repayments. A reputation of ruthlessness precedes the bank agent. A father, fearful that his son too may succumb, pleads with the man to defer the debt.
