This masterfully crafted social drama incisively probes into corruption in the government machinery, highlighting the unethical practices that are rampant in the municipal mafia, through the trials and travails faced by C Pavithran Nair, a.k.a. CP, a young and honest contractor. His brother, Radhakrishnan has become immensely successful and influential, mostly through the process of bagging large government contracts through illegal methods like bribery. He has also become extremely wealthy in a short period of time by using poor quality materials in construction. In his insatiable greed for wealth, Radhakrishnan stops at nothing, not even murder. Radhakrishnan also befriends a crooked politician and attempts to get his sister married to him so that they could cement their relationship. This criminal duo, who are CP's brother and brother-in-law, undertake several criminal activities that cause untold damage in his life, including destroying his love life, with Radha, a government employee who works with municipal office. Can CP succeed in gathering evidence against his brother, Radhakrishnan and his brother-in-law, and ensure that justice is served?

Trivia:
This movie was a phenomenal success both critically and commercially, and is considered one of the classic movies of Malayalam cinema.

It was remade in Hindi under the title, Khatta Meeta (2010), with Akshay Kumar in the lead role but it did not rise up to expectations at the box office, becoming only an average grosser.
