Ricky and his family have been fighting an uphill struggle against debt since the 2008 financial crash. An opportunity to wrestle back some independence appears with a shiny new van and the chance to run a franchise as a self-employed delivery driver. It’s hard work, and his wife’s job as a career is no easier. This film's story is partially inspired by the experiences of Don Lane, a courier for DPD who died January 2018 after working through illness in the Christmas delivery rush. He had skipped several hospital appointments to treat his type 1 diabetes because he had been charged £150 by DPD when he missed deliveries to attend an appointment and feared further charges.
Kris Hitchen found inspiration for his role from his time working as a plumber in the years between acting jobs.
