Trivia:
A documentary titled Exploring Shiva after 25 Years was released on the film's silver anniversary; it is the first documentary about a Telugu film.

Apart from the commercial success, this movie went on to win many awards and accolades, including the Filmfare Award for Best Film – Telugu, three Nandi Awards: Best Director (Varma), Best First Film of a Director, and Best Dialogue Writer (Bharani).

This was the only Telugu film screened at the International Film Festival of India, held on 19 January 1990.

This movie was a tremendous commercial success and went on to complete a 100-day run in 22 centres and a 175-day run in five centres.

Shiva's character is loosely based on a student leader in Siddhartha College, Vijayawada.

The film didn't have a written script. Varma narrated the story to Nagarjuna verbally.

This is the first Indian film to use Steadicam.

The film is an adaptation from Bruce Lee's Way of the Dragon (1972).

The film marks Ram Gopal Varma's directorial debut.
