Factual Mistake
When Grace marks the tree with blue spray paint and mentions that the owl and the tree will be safe now, she is actually marking the tree to be cut down. The U.S. Forest Service works with logging companies to thin forests by marking certain trees with blue spray paint so the loggers know to cut them down

Continuity
Grace tells Pete she was about his age when her mother had died, but Later in the film, when she asks her father about a picture she drew, he said that she drew it when she was six, about a year before her mother died
Trivia:
Levi Alexander, who plays Young Pete in the prologue, and Gareth Reeves, who plays his father, are actually related on first cousin basis

Director David Lowery is married to Augustine Frizzell, who plays Mrs. Swanberg in this film

Despite the fact that this a remake of the original 1977 film, director David Lowery described his version of Pete's Dragon is to be more of a "re-invention", rather than a straight-up remake

In the 1977 musical, Grace's name was Nora, and her father's was Lampie, and Pete was a runaway orphan from his abusive foster family and everyone in the town hated him

Karl Urban replaced Michael C Hall for the role of Gavin

Robert Redford had rescued an abandoned horse on the second day of shooting

This movie is inspired from a 1977 live-action/animated musical film by the same name.
