Njan Piranna Naattil (1985)

Embedded with charged emotion and fierce action, this intense drama centres around Rajan, an honest and sincere police officer. His elder brother, Gopinathan is an inmate in a mental asylum, having been diagnosed as criminally insane, but had he not been, he would have been given the death sentence by the law. This evocative tale also depicts the pathetic condition of the mentally ill and the rampant exploitation they are forced to endure, at times by the very people who are sworn to protect them.

Rajan's girlfriend is Sudha, a beautiful young woman, but he has been avoiding her and wishes to break up with her, even though his love for her is still apparent.

It is gradually revealed through flashbacks that Gopinathan used to be a happily married man with a beautiful, young daughter. Along with Rajan, who had just become engaged to Sudha, a talented lawyer, these were an ideal family. So what happened in the past to destroy their peace, joy and togetherness? Can Rajan find a way to protect his elder brother from the death sentence or will further tragedy afflict the family?
