One night, while travelling from Trichy to Chennai in June 1981, she was involved in a tragic accident that left her with tremendous injury. As a result, her right leg had to be amputated. She was told that her career in dancing was over, but she refused to accept defeat.
With the help of a prosthetic leg, she began practising once more, and came back to perform. She not only became a renowned dancer, but also proved her talent as an actress.
