Lisa is hired at a departmental store where she makes friends with three women - Fay, Patty and a Slovenian immigrant Magda who introduces her to her European friends. Patty craves the attention of her husband which forces her to buy a pink night dress that ultimately grabs his attention. Lisa and Fay are taken to a new year party by Madga where they meet Rudi and Michael. Lisa aims to graduate from Sydney University and also get a particular dress that she dreams to buy when its rate has dropped from 150 guineas to 75 guineas.
