With the suicide of her parents, the story flows through the life and journey of Jyoti, a young village girl, in the most trying circumstances, as she breaks away from social mores, to win the respect across the village that once held her in low esteem. She shines like a beacon, to become one the most successful farmers in these difficult areas.

With courage and determination, Jyoti brings up her younger sisters, all of whom are affected through this complex journey. On this path they are supported by a Good Samaritan. Thought their relationship is sometimes strained, the support and friendship endures. She stands firm, against the village head, and ever-fickle villagers.
