Irina, a part-time waitress in a small Bulgarian town, sees her family trapped in poverty, getting fired just as her husband suffers an incapacitating accident. To make ends meet, she becomes a surrogate mother. As life grows in her belly, so does Irina’s despair, but also a newfound sense of love and forgiveness.
