The life of the Morgans as told through the eyes of their youngest child Huw. Over a span of 50 years, the Welsh mining family struggle to survive through unionization, strikes, and child abuse. As they do so, their hometown and its culture begins to slowly decline. As he raises his sons to be coal-miners, Gwilym, the patriarch of the Morgan household, dreams of a better life for young Huw.
