Gul Makai' chronicles the journey of Ziauddin Yousafzai's family from the Swat Valley, where they faced the oppression due to the Sharia Law when the valley was seized by the Taliban gunmen in 2009. Ziauddin Yousafzai`s daughter, Malala Yousafzai, chose to speak against them via her blogs on the BBC Urdu website under the pseudonym of 'Gul Makai'. Her voice gained recognition from the global leaders for her activism for the rights of girls to receive an education. Even though her father was a more active voice against the Taliban, they chose to target Malala to stop the voice speaking for girl`s education. Malala then went on to receive the Nobel Peace Prize in 2014 for becoming the voice and force for the education of all women across the world.
