Trivia:
The film is a remake of the Telugu movie Swati Muthyam (1986), which was also directed by K. Vishwanath.

Raj Kapoor wanted to produce the film after watching the Telugu version. He wanted Kamal Haasan in the lead role. Unfortunately, Kamal quoted a high price for the story and Raj decided to back off. A month later, Raj approached Kamal Hassan again, but Kamal had already sold the remake rights to someone else.

Director K. Vishwanath wanted Jayapradha in the heroine role but Anil Kapoor refused to act with her because she had refused to act with him in Shekar Kapur's Joshilay back when he wasn't a big star.
