Devi (1970)

Devi is a young woman who lives in a village with her widowed mother Jamuna. She meets with local doctor Shekar and both of them fall in love with each other, ultimately ending in their marriage. The marriage does not auger well with Shekhar's elder brother, his widowed mother-in-law and her unmarried daughter Shoba, who was arranged to marry Shekhar, after the death of her eldest daughter. Shekhar plans to leave with his wife, due to the unfair treatment shown to her. They compromise and reluctantly accept Devi into their household. Devi becomes pregnant much to the delight of Shekhar, who unfortunately must leave for an overseas trip. Upon his return he finds out that Devi has left and when inquired she is asked to visit the local brothel, where he finds her photo. Will Shekhar succeed in finding his wife and child??
