Sarita is a young and attractive woman who lives with her father, aunt, cousin and maid. Sarita's father hires a tutor named Arun, for her. Arun and Sarita slowly fall in love, especially after she learns that he is a poet with the pen name Rahee, whom she admires. Sarita's father is against this union as Arun is poor and wants Sarita to marry Motilal, the son of a wealthy man. Sarita's aunt wants her to marry her nephew Ramu, a womanizer who poses as her music teacher. Motilal reveals a truth about Sarita's birth and this brings many questions into perspective and causes troubles for her presence in her household.
