This family-oriented social drama revolves around Balendran an intelligent young lawyer, who rents a small house owned by Prameela's family. Although they are from a wealthy background, her father keeps squandering all their wealth in drinks, while her mother tries her best to keep the household afloat. Prameela is a beautiful young woman, and soon, Balendran finds himself falling in love with her. When Balendran approaches his family with his desire to marry Prameela, his mother is very happy, although she had wanted him to get married to a close relative. However, complications arise due to Prameela's father, Karunakaran Nair's indebtedness and loss of reputation in the community, leading to the breakdown of the relationship. Prameela succeeds in getting employment in a bank. Moving to the city, she experiences a new lifestyle, makes new friends, but is also forced to endure sexual harassment, insults and is demeaned by her own family. Finally, she ends up becoming the wife of Viswanathan, an older, but very wealthy man. In a cruel twist of fate, it turns out that Balendran is Viswanathan's lawyer. Rejected by loved ones, commoditised by society, and exploited by men, how will Prameela's future pan out?
