Salamma (Lakshmy Ramakrishnan), is a cleaner in a hospital. She has worked hard all her life and is almost on the verge of retirement now, and is expecting to lead the rest of her life comfortably with her retirement benefits.
However, she has two sons also expect to benefit from the cash. Her first son is Saravanan a painter, who wishes to graduate into a contract. He is also an alcoholic.
Her second son Siva is an auto-rickshaw driver, who wishes to use Salamma's retirement benefits to purchase his own autorickshaw.
Salamma's tenant, Ammani teaches Salamma a lot about living for herself, and living to the fullest in every moment. When it turns out that Ammani might come into a lot of money, Salamma's children turn around and treat Ammani with respect and insult Salamma.
In an added twist, Salamma's grandson appears out of nowhere. Her daughter had eloped and completely cut off ties with the family, but has chosen to send her son to ask for money. What will the future hold in store for Salamma and Ammani?
