Set against an impoverished rural backdrop, this soulful social drama sheds light on the struggles in the life of Rampada, a hard-working farmer of Bengal, who lives with his wife and child. When the sheer hardship and starvation of famine proves unbearable for their young child and he passes away, Rampada is forced to leave home and travel to the city in search of food and livelihood. in the meantime, Mukta his wife is left vulnerable to struggle on her own. Noticing an easy prey, a cruel hoarder, Ghanashyam Das exploits and abuses her, leaving her in a torturous situation where she is forced to become a sex trade worker. Shankar, a conscientious young man who is a great patriot and a social reformer works hard to create fundamental social change and improve the situation. As he belongs to the same village as Rampada and Mukta, Shankar takes it upon himself to fight for them despite Ghanshyam's machinations and disruptive plots. Can Shankar succeed in going against the odds and reunite Mukta and Rampada? Will the local community accept the couple back into their fold?
