Set in a remote mountain village in Ming China, Gu, an unambitious painter rescues Yang, a fugitive who is being targeted by a vengeful eunuch Wei who wants to eradicate her family because her father attempted to warn the Emperor of the eunuch's corruption. A stranger steps into the village on a mission to capture Yang and bring her back to the city for execution on behalf of the East Chamber guards.
